The Conclusion of Lee Style Army 2012

These past few weeks, I have been slaving over nothing else but the recently concluded Lee Style Army 2012 competition. But I'm happy to say that now that it's over, all the sleepless nights were well worth it! I'd like to take this opportunity to thank my parents and the rest of my famiLEE for their unwavering support. I'm happy to be able to bring home the prize for best photographer because I can be someone that makes my family proud.

What an experience, what a wonderful opportunity. I'll never forget the people I've met and the learnings I've learned. It somehow feels like it was just a dream but it was one of the sweetest dreams I've ever had.

So grateful for the people I've met in this competition.

And for my team of talented individuals all of whom I'm so proud of. Especially Andrew who also won Best Male Model

I dedicate this achievement to my parents and my groupmates who will always have my back.

Without further ado, here are the winning photos for Lee Style Army 2012

Andrew's Button-down Polo and Blazer designed by Trish Tirol-Padre

And a special big thank you to my partner, Nicole Sunga. You're a winner in my book!

Lindsey and Verney's Wedding

Last September, I shot "Guerilla Mode" at a wedding close to my heart as our eldest cousin finally got married! We welcome Achie Verney into the famiLEE and we know she's got a heart big enough to acommodate for this big clan. The wedding was short, simple and sweet; but also the most fun us cousins have had in a long time.

Cheers to the newlyweds! -Matt

Re-History

I don't know if it's true what they say about history repeating itself but we pushed the definition in this project. Re-History tires to capture the spirit of photographs from Philippine history, iconic or anonymous. The concept of recapturing history is really quite interesting. And no matter how close we get to the first photo, we know it'll never be exactly the same. Something to ponder on for the night. :o?

Models: Nicko Caluya (Taruc) and myself (Ninoy);  Rio Tanchuling (Teacher), Ian Hermogenes, Regina Velez, Enzo Mendoza, Jamie Ozamiz, Jess Orense, Nicko Caluya, Sam Buyco (Students); Carl Sy (Japanese), Nikko Bacalzo and Xander Cruz (Victims); Xander Cruz (F. Marcos), Maan Mendoza (Imelda), Carl Sy (Bystander #43)

Special thanks to Maan Mendoza and Mo Maguyon!
This series was completed for Sir Giron's History class.

"Young Ninoy Aquino negotiates with Hukbalahap Leader Luis Taruc."

"Thomasites visit the country to educate the Filipinos."

"One of the many occurrences of beheading during the Japanese occupation."

"President Ferdinand Marcos declares Martial Law. First Lady Imelda Marcos stand behind him."

Impressive or does it still need work? I'd love to hear your comments!
Salut! Matt

LEE Style Army 2012

Here's what's happening with me for the month of October...

The most amazing opportunity surprised me last weekend when I was calledback as one of the 25 finalists of the LEE Style Army 2012. The 3-week intensive competition under the skillful mentorship of the LEE team gives us the unbelievable opportunity to create and shoot a collection for Philippine Fashion Week Spring Summer 2013.

It's gonna be a hellufa ride and I'll be writing about it here on the blog. Catch glimpses of what goes into preparing for fashion week here and I'll see you guys on the runway! :)

Salut! Matt

Migo Turns 1

Taking photos of Migo's first birthday was an offer I simply couldn't refuse. Apart from being good friends with his Aunt Betsi, I'm also taking a class under his Grandpa. Now I definitely couldn't turn this job down. Haha.

Migo and his family LOVE Dr. Seuss; so it was only logical that they celebrated Migo's first year with a Cat in the Hat themed party. From the centerpiece to the goodie bags to Migo's shirt, everything was made by hand just for his special day. I'm sure 10 years from now, Migo would look at these photos and say he had awesome parents!

It's quite simple if you care to see,
Migo is throwing is first birthday party!
