Jacob's Bahay Kubo

Today was a play day with my 3-year old cousin, Jacob. I've been excited to do this since last week and although it started to rain when I got there, that wasn't gonna stop us from having our fun. :)

The cutest thing about Jacob is that his favorite food is fruits and veggies! How many parents could say that? They're even his favorite toys! So our play date started out going to the market then learning about fruits and veggies from A-Z then going out to the garden to sing and play. Absolutely adorable!! We sang songs like 10 little indians, Bahay Kubo and Lupang Hinirang. Very nationalistic! :o)

I had a great time with Jacob and Auntie Amore, Auntie Jen and my mom today. Thank you all for such a fun afternoon. :)

The Mundane Series (First Cinemagraphs)

As promised in the entry I posted earlier this week, here's something special I've been reserving for today. These photos come from a series called Mundane that I shot last January. These are also the shots displayed in the Ateneo Heights Artist Workshop Exhibit.

A special feature from the series, the "trophies" of the collection are, these pieces called Cinemagraphs. Cinemagraphs are a relatively new art medium in the Philippines. The best way I could think of to describe a cinemagraph is given by photographer and cinemagrapher Kert Gartner who says that they're "more than a picture, but not quite a video". They straddle along the in-between. The first time I saw one was in the blog of New York based fashion photographer Jamie Beck, who I highly revere. I made it a personal challenge to create some of my own and these were the first few of them, not quite refined yet but surely getting there and still interesting to look at.

Hope you guys enjoy Mundane. If you'd like to hear more about the series, drop me a line or post a comment here. I'd be happy to explain it to you! Expect more cinemagraphs in the future. Until then, cheers! -Matt

2nd Ateneo Heights Artist Workshop Exhibit

Heights presents the 2nd Ateneo Heights Artist Workshop! The exhibit will be on February 20-24 in the MVP Basement. Opening night on February 20, 4:30-7:00pm.

Have a look at the pieces of some of Ateneo's upcoming talents. I'll have on exhibit 4 of my own pieces and they are nothing short of mundane. These works will surely make you take a second look and think, "Wait...I could have sworn it just..."

The poster below will provide more details of the exhibit. If you're in campus next week, I hope you do drop by and even say a quick "Hi!"

Edit: After the exhibit, I'll be sharing a nice surprise with everyone so stay tuned to this at the end of the week :)

The Early in Modern Shoot

An urban remake of tribal wear made distinct by the bold, stand-out patterns. We squeezed the shoot for all it's worth taking photos until the sun set. I guess one memorable takeaway from this shoot was that I was constantly amazed by how much talent there was working on this project! A special collaboration of The Miracle Project and Bjorn Manila
